Today’s Daf Yomi Question:

Chana declared ‘I will seclude myself with a stranger in front of my husband’ which will result in my drinking the Sotah water.  How can she allow herself to transgress the prohibition of Yichud?

The Gemara says if one needs to fast on a Shabbos, he should nevertheless atone (for his neglecting Oneg Shabbos) by fasting again… If fasting on Shabbos requires atonement, how can one transgress a prohibition with the intention to atone for it later?

Today’s Daf Yomi Question:

We learn that a bracha is said upon seeing a multitude (600,000) since it contains the full spectrum of minds which equal that number, and is reflected by their dissimilarities in facial features as well.  Since there certainly exist more than 6000,000 people in the world, this apparently denotes that there are duplicates as well, if so why don’t two people ever look alike?

Today’s Daf Yomi Question:

In our Gemara we find Rebbi Chiya who says that (past a certain point – sealing coffin/disintegration of flesh) a Mes is unaware of what is said by people.  How is this compatible with Rebbi Chiya in Brachos (18a) who maintained that any Mes is well aware of events transpiring in this world?

We learn that a Reshus Harabim is an area without walls, similar to the Midbar.  The Gemara in Shabbos (97b) says that the Machane of Levi was a Reshus Harabim; how can an area surrounded by tents be considered a Reshus Harabim?

In the case of the unspecified Eruv under the tree, it works according to Shmuel, since there is but one eruv actually being activated.  But in the case of a double-eruv placement (shetei ruchos) why should any of them work?

Today’s Daf Yomi Question:

Keitzad me’abrin – what is the significance to whether it is spelled with an ‘Alef’ (denoting limbs) or an ‘Ayin’ (expectant woman)?

Rebbi Yehoshua refrained from the salty beans, explaining that he had already eaten.  This (untruth) was permitted to avoid embarrassing his host.  But would she not realize (at some later point when consuming the beans) that he had simply avoided the salty dish?

Today’s Daf Yomi Question:

Rebbi Yochanan teaches us that just as the Eruv doesn’t require a Perutah, likewise Sechirus has this leniency and can be done with less than a Perutah.  How does this fit with Rebbi Yochanan’s earlier statement (62a) that less than a Perutah has legitimate value by a Goy for all halachos as well?
