Brachos 34 – ברכות לד

Today’s Daf Yomi Question:

The Gemara tells us that one is not meant to make mention of personal needs during the first and last three brachos of shemone esrei which are dedicated to the praise of hashem. Tosfos points out that this is only said regarding one’s own personal matters, however one may pray for public needs. If the reason for this halacha is that we must first open our tefilla specifically with praise, what difference is there between personal needs or public needs?

We learn that once the meal is considered to have been concluded, one is prohibited from eating any longer until he recites birchas hamazon. Rashi makes it clear that he cannot eat even if he should choose to make a new bracha. What is the essence of this prohibition?

Today’s Daf Yomi Question:

We learn that a bracha is said upon seeing a multitude (600,000) since it contains the full spectrum of minds which equal that number, and is reflected by their dissimilarities in facial features as well. Since there certainly exist more than 6000,000 people in the world, this apparently denotes that there are duplicates as well, if so why don’t two people ever look alike?

The community is required to support the Talmid Chacham who is preoccupied with his community’s affairs. Why is this related to him being a Talmid Chacham?

According to Rebbi Yishmael why is there no Havdalla recited on Yom Kippur which falls out on Motzei Sahbbos – just as we make Havdalla on Yom Tov which falls out then?
