Today’s Daf Yomi Question:

The Gemara says that on Shabbos one is meant to make a bracha on two whole loafs since the passuk says ‘lechem mishne’ (a double bread) referring to the double portion of Man which fell on Erev Shabbos.  Since this event occurred on Friday why do we commemorate it on Shabbos?

Today’s Daf Yomi Question:

Rava asked, since they are all immersing in a Mikva (in addition to taking the shower) than there is no damage being done.  But why is there no concern that perhaps occasionally they will neglect the Mikva altogether, since they have the erroneous perception that the shower is the primary purifier?

Today’s Daf Yomi Question:

The Gemara advises one to instruct his household gently ‘so that they accept from him’.  The Rosh cites the Gemara (Gittin 6b) that a person should never instill excessive fear in his home.  This reason would indeed seem a sufficient basis for our Gemara as well; why does the Gemara provide the reason of ‘acceptance’ instead?

Today’s Daf Yomi Question:

Abaye asks a kasha on Rava from Meducha and Eli; but haven’t we learned earlier that these objects are considered ‘Chisaron Kis’ and cannot be moved regardless?

Today’s Daf Yomi Question:

The Gemara says we don’t follow the view of Rebbi Eliezer (who is referred to as ‘Shamuti’).  How were the residents of his locale allowed to follow his opinion?

Eruvin 3 – עירובין ג

We learn that a Korah must be within twenty to be noticeable; however, Rebbi Yehuda allows it to be placed above as well.  How is it going to be noticed?

The Gemara says that the ‘Rabim’ will pay attention and maintain the Korah properly, as opposed to a ‘Yachid’ who might neglect it.  Why are the Rabim superior to an individual, since they too are merely a multitude of individuals?

Today’s Daf Yomi Question:

We learn that a sea-wall is considered a mechitza for the Mavoi.  How can a sea-wall which apparently doesn’t provide enclosure to the sea (which is a Carmelis) be considered a mechitza for the area beside it?

Eruvin 17 – עירובין יז

Rav Huna explains that where there are presently no mechitzos, the fact that there was a heter at the onset of Shabbos is of no benefit.  Rav Yitzchak maintains however, that since the residents are still there, they maintain their original allowance.  How can they carry if there are no mechitzos in practice?

Eruvin 85 – עירובין פה

The Gemara says that a Beis Sha’ar of a Yachid can house the Eruv, although one who resides there does not have to contribute to an Eruv.  Since generally these two concepts go hand in hand, how can we differentiate in this instance?
