Eruvin 5 – עירובין ה

We learn from a Kal Vachomer to allow ‘Omed merubah’ (a mostly built wall) by a Mavoi.  Why do we need a Kal Vachomer to apply the universal mechitza-concept of ‘Omed merubah’ to Mavoi as well?

Today’s Daf Yomi Question:

Although Rav doesn’t subscribe to a Tzuras Hapesach over ten amos for Shabbos, he agrees that it can be applied for Kilayim, as we see in the Braisa (amud beis – see Tosfos 6a).  How can we explain the difference between Kilayim and Shabbos?

Today’s Daf Yomi Question:

Rebbi Yehuda seems to agree that the limit of a standard pietza is ten amos; which is presumably learned from Halacha lemoshe misinai.  If so, how can he allow an opening of thirteen by Pasei Bira’os?

Eruvin 26 – עירובין כו

Rebbi Ilaye mentions Arkabalin as being suitable for Maror on Pesach.  This plant is mentioned in Mishnayos Shevi’is and is listed (according to some Girsa’os) amongst plants which are not Ma’achal Adam (meant for human consumption).  Since the passuk states the word ‘Achila’ by Maror, how can one be Yotze the mitzvah of Maror with something not fit for eating?
