Today’s Daf Yomi Question:

Bais Hillel allow sending a letter if there is sufficient time to reach the first house in the city, for we may rely on the possibility that the Postmaster is present there.  Why (when there is no Postmaster) do they prohibit sending the letter, on the concern that he may have to spend time looking for the recipient; why can’t we rely on the possibility that he will encounter the recipient immediately upon his arrival in the city?

Today’s Daf Yomi Question:

Abaye concludes that according to Rebbi Shimon if the puncture is below the Reviis mark, the contents are considered connected to the ground.  The size of the puncture discussed here (presumably) needs to be the size of a small root, although a smaller hole is sufficient for liquid to leak out.  If liquid leaking is not reckoned with, then why is the Reviis amount serving as our benchmark?

The Gemara says that separating brine from a fish considered ‘separating food from food’; since the liquid is foreign matter that entered the fish from the outside, why isn’t it equated to the pickled vegetable juice which is considered separating liquid from food?
