Today’s Daf Yomi Question:

We learn in the Mishna that performing half of the melacha of carrying is an issur derabanan but not min hatorah.  Why is it not assur min hatorah, since we know that even a ‘chatzi shiur assur min hatorah’ (i.e. eating half a kezayis of prohibited food)?

Today’s Daf Yomi Question:

The Gemara (on top of Amud Beis) describes Yiras Shamayim as the ‘gateway’ to Torah.  However, from Rav Yanai announcement (following the above Gemara) it would seem that Torah is considered the ‘gateway’ to Yiras Shamayim – is there a contradiction here?

Today’s Daf Yomi Question:

Although Elishah wanted to be Moser Nefesh for the Mitzvah of Tefillin, why wasn’t it sufficient to wear them in private rather than risk his life by displaying them in public?  If indeed it was deemed necessary to do so, why was he allowed to remove them when confronted by the Roman officer?

Shabbos 144 – שבת קמד

Rav Nachman holds that if one squeezes anything, it attains the status of Mashke (a beverage); why don’t we say ‘Batla Da’ato’ (his abnormal custom is nullified in view of the common practice)?

Why is milk produced from a goat (which is Muktza) not considered Muktza?
