Today’s Daf Yomi Question:
Rashi says that giving Tzedaka with personal benefit in mind does not constitute ‘Shelo lishma’. How can this be considered ‘Lishma’ if there is intent for personal benefit?
Rashi explains that the Mitzva itself is done completely as a Mitzva. He just also has in mind that through this complete Mitzva he will gain. This is different from the later case of the Olei Regel who might say that it is worth going to Yerushalayim just for its fruits or baths. In that case, the Mitzva itself is being done for a different purpose.
