The Gemara differentiates between filling a pillow for the first time which is considered a Melacha, versus refilling an old pillow which is permitted. Once the filling falls out which renders the pillow useless, why is the refilling not viewed as a fashioning of a kli?

Just as with returning a strap to a shoe, the shoe, and in our case the pillow, remained a Kli. It is in a circumstance that it can’t be benefited from, but it is still whole.
Until you put in the stuffing for the first time it wasn’t a pillow, and until the shoe had its straps it wasn’t a shoe. But, once it became what it is, until it is broken it remains.
