Shabbos 90 – שבת צ

The Tana Kamma holds that a dead locust needs a full shiur.  Why don’t we apply the concept of ‘Birya’ which generally grants special significance to a full creature?

Why is it considered Bal Teshaktzu if it is something that apparently wasn’t repulsive to him?

  1. We didn’t apply Berya to a whole olive. Why should we apply it to a locust?

In any application of Baal Tishaksu, obviously the protagonist isn’t repulsed. Besides, you want to teach your child to be repulsed by that which is repulsive.
