Today’s Daf Yomi Question:
Mar Zutra challenged Rava’s prohibition of manipulating with a stone for concern of hair-removal, by exclaiming “should he endanger himself?”; if (presumably) it is not pikuach nefesh then why would this be grounds for heter?
I am understanding that Mar Zutra holds that failure to manipulate IS a pikuach nefesh and therefore may be performed despite the possibility of pulling out hairs. However it seems that Rava still feels that it is not a pikuach nefesh and therefore there is no heter to do so unless he performs the manipulation ke’leachar yad.
It is an intuitive argument. It just can’t be that every Shabbos one must endanger himself, even if it does not necessarily mean death
