Today’s Daf Yomi Question:

We learn that a pan with ashes is not considered Muktzah (for ordinary people) due to some granules of incense that are present; thus these granules determine the status of the pan.  Further on the Gemara teaches that wood chips don’t render the pan Muktzah since they aren’t valuable enough.  Why do we consider granules more valuable than wood chips?

    • A candlestick may not be moved even to use it elsewhere or to use its location (letzorech gufo umekomo) for two reasons:

      1) An expensive one is considered ‘Muktza machmas chisaron kis’ (muktza for concern of damaging the expensive item). This applies even when there was no flame on the candlestick this Shabbos.

      2) The candlestick is considered a base (‘basis’) for the flame which is Muktza. This reason applies when there was a flame lit during bein hashmashos.
