Today’s Daf Yomi Question:
The Gemara speaks about the obligation to wash ‘yadayim v’raglayim arvis’ (hands and feet before Shabbos) what about the obligation to wash the rest of one’s body – or perhaps does the Gemara mean to add another chiyuv in addition to bathing?
but if cooking is allowed on yom tov, why would it be assur to burn the passul terumah if it is used in cooking?
Good point raised by both Rashi and Tosfos! Tosfos answers, since burning the Terumah is a Mitzvah, the entire act is considered an act of Mitzvah and is thus assur on Yom Tov. Although he is deriving benefit while burning, it is not considered a melacha for personal benefit, since this is viewed merely as a side benefit and is secondary to the meleches Mitzvah which is assur on Yom Tov.
ok. Also it is a gezeiras hakasuv also right? From the passuk where it says boker twice, which we learn to mean he waits until the second morning to burn it.
The passuk is speaking about burning without deriving any benefit, however if he has enjoyment from the burning it should be permitted, were it not for this new sevara of Tosfos, that we don’t reckon with this benefit and we consider it an act of burning for the sake of mitzvah which is prohibited on Yom Tov.
