Why is placing one’s hand (on Hashem’s name) not regarded as a chatzitza?

Chatzitza was only mentioned when we thought the cover is there to prevent the Shaim from being erased. Once we understood that the purpose of the cover is so as not to see it in that situation, the cover can be very loose. Besides, if I recall correctly, if your hand is wet it is not a Chatzitza.
